The knowledge base

The knowledge base provides you with an online information database which should have virtually all the information you need to support yourself and your firm throughout the year.

In the knowledge base, you can view all the DT Max material available and a variety of CRA documentation, and jump easily between references and documents by clicking hyperlinks, which connect related information among the documents provided.

The What's new? bulletin will keep you informed of the latest changes made in the program, with references to the relevant knowledge base material to enable you to look up further information.

Installing the knowledge base

When installing DT Max, you will be given the option to install the knowledge base as well, in one language only or in both languages. Note that even if you choose to install in one language only, the button that is linked to the other language version will still appear on the documents but instead of pointing to that other language version, it will take you to the knowledge base table of contents.

Knowledge base updates

The knowledge base is updated continuously as new information becomes available. This may include tips and hints on how to use the program better, new help documents, additions to the FAQ database, information pertaining to glitches or improvements.

Your knowledge base will be updated with every new version of DT Max. However, you may download updates on a more regular basis from our Web site. We encourage you to do so. See Installing DT Max patches and updates for instructions.

Access to the knowledge base

To access knowledge base material from DT Max, choose any of the following options:

• choose Knowledge base from the Help menu (for the knowledge base home page)

• press [F7] (for the knowledge base home page)

• click the Help icon (for context-sensitive help)

• press [F1] (for context-sensitive help)

• click the Help button anywhere in the program (for context-sensitive help)

• press [F8] while in a client's file (this will take you to the keyword help)

• press [Ctrl+F8] while your cursor is on a keyword in the data entry screen (this will bring up information pertaining to that keyword)

The DT Tax and Accounting Web site

A version of the knowledge base, updated daily during the tax season, is located on our Web site. It is not compiled and does not use the same search engine as the program's HTMLHelp system, but it provides the information you require.

The easiest way to get to the site is by choosing DT Max on the Internet from the Help menu, and then choosing Knowledge base on the Web. Then, select the menu option you want from the knowledge base screen that comes up.

If you have direct access to the Internet, you will be connected immediately. If you do not but are set up to connect, Windows will ask you if you want to connect now.
